Mental Statuses are volatile statuses that expire after a set number of turns, or if the monster switches. A monster can have as many mental statuses at once as can be inflicted. The Trait Psychosensitive gains a 10% damage boost for each of these statuses that are concurrently afflicted.

Mental Statuses

Confused

This mental status will cause the monster to potentially use moves that were not selected.

Frightened

A frightened monster has their Trait suppressed. This means the monster is effectively treated as if it has no trait.

Rested

A rested monster is immune to Sleep.

Focused

A focused monster has the chance of applying a move's effect doubled. Moves with no chance listed are not affected.

Panicked

A panicked monster has a 50% chance to negate all effects of a move.

Enraged

An enraged monster will build critical points at double the rate. However, while enraged, critical moves are always used if available. Additionally, the critical meter is always reset to 0 if a critical move is used while enraged.

Groggy

A groggy monster has -1 priority added to every move.

Smug

Smug is a special mental status that is applied when using a critical status move. It offers some unique interactions with other game mechanics.

  • Smug monsters cannot have their stats lowered by the opponent.
  • Smug monsters who have the trait Peerless gain a 30% boost to their SPD stat.
  • Smug monsters who have the trait Fair can gain and use crits, while their opponent remains unable.
  • Psychosensitive monsters gain an additional 10% damage boost while Smug, making the total bonus 20%.
  • Smug monsters always win speed ties against non-smug monsters.

Panic vs. Focus

These two statuses relate to effects but interact with them in nuanced ways. Focus doubles the chance that is listed. Whereas Panic has the chance to negate any moves effect. This means that Panic can affect all moves, while Focus only affects those which specify a chance to apply. Furthermore, panic supersedes focus as panic will negate the effect from ever rolling a chance. Thus, if a monster has both panic and focus, the game will first check if panic negates the effect, and then proceed to do calculations normally while accounting for the doubled effect from focus.
